Who is Brence?
Though my Dad always showed me quick tricks as a kid, my journey with magic started after a chance encounter in an airport. As I was fiddling with a deck of cards (my dad and I had been playing Gin Rummy earlier), a couple walked up to me and asked me to do a card trick. At the time, I had no idea how to do one, so I told them as much. They were really sad, I was really sad, and that night I knew what I had to do. From then on, I dove headfirst into the magic world. My audiences started as my high school classmates, but as I invested more time and perfected my craft, I began performing at birthday parties, private events, and even schools in Capetown, South Africa!
The Covid-19 Pandemic hit hard – I didn’t even have a high school graduation. Magic is personal, it’s about being close to people, and for a year and a half, we were lucky to get six feet. So in the meantime, I performed over 250 zoom shows for classrooms, libraries, and parties across America, keeping the good times rolling online. When I came out to Los Angeles for College in 2021, I set my mind to my next goal: join the Magic Castle, one of the most coveted magic performance venues in the world. A year and a half later, I’ve performed over 200 shows at the Magic Castle in the prestigious Dai Vernon Close-Up Gallery. Every day I perform feels like a dream come true.
I’ve been featured on iHeartRadio Los Angeles’ KOST 103.5 and created and delivered my own TEDxTalk on “The Magic of Storytelling.” At the end of the day, I always go back to a quote from master illusionist Doug Henning: “If we live with a sense of WONDER, our lives become filled with JOY” I strive to inspire that sense of Joy and Wonder in everyone I meet – Including you!
